This course will present the legal characteristics of the EU as an international actor and the legal framework shaping the international action of the EU. Among other things, the following will be studied: the EU competences to conclude external agreements, the principle structuring EU's international action, the role of the EU institutions in the field of external relations, the internal institutional procedure to conclude an international agreement, The course will also present the EU main EU external policies such as the common commercial policy, the cooperation and development policy or the security and defence policy. When relevant we will try to illustrate the course by using examples concerning Asian States or case studies related to agreements with Asian countries.
